6V to 12V conversion questions... (yes, this again!)

I did use the search function and read up but I have a few more questions about converting my CJ2A from 6V to 12V.

Here are the parts I think I need to replace...

Battery

Starter (have it rewound for 12V)

Coil

Horn (Replace or wire in a 12V to 6V reducer)

Electronic "Points" (I converted to a magnetic Pertronics that I like and would like to continue with)

Fuel Gauge (Again I could wire in a 12V to 6V reducer)

Generator, replace it with a 12V Alternator or have it rewired for 12V

Replace all lightbulbs

My big unknown is do I have to replace:

- the fuel quantity sending unit or does that same unit work with both 6V and 12V?

- the Ammeter (same question, is an ammeter 6V or 12V specific?)

Did I miss anything?

Any other helpful suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks Again

Jon

You don't have to replace the 6v starter. It will work just fine on 12v. Mine works great.

I didn't replace any gauges. They are all working fine.

You'll need to replace the flasher for the turn signals (if you have them) with a 12v flasher.

This is the 12v > 6v step-down transformer that I used for my horn. Seems to be working well.

I am thinking of doing this conversion. Just starting my research. This is helpful.

The Fuel sending unit needs to be the voltage you are running unless your fuel gauge is a stick.
As I understand the fuel gauge system it is a balance of resistance so it does not care about voltage.
