I just discovered this IFFC forum from reading the CJ2A Page moments ago. I’m now also a member here.
This looks like a great forum for connecting with other flat fender Willys fanatics in NE Ohio as well as around the world.
My flat fender background began in 1971 at with the purchase of my first ‘car’. It was a 46 CJ2A #41511. It ran & drove and was complete with no hacking. Was in great shape but I had to learn quickly how to fix things myself in a (at the time) 25 year old Jeep. The clutch went out and my dad and I (with the help of a manual) pulled the engine and replaced plate & disc. This was my every day driver in college. And it had its share of off road mud, hills and excursions only a jeep can experience.
My knowledge, experience and the hobby grew and I eventually did a complete frame off restoration of the 46. Never sold it, and I still have it in my garage today.
Part of the restoration was to find an L134 as my 46 came with a replacement F134. I picked up a 48 CJ2A with its original L134 engine. Pulled the L and I rebuilt it. I still have the 48 in my garage with the F134 in it. That’s the short story behind my 46 & 48 CJ2A’s.
Now I must bring up my sweetheart Becky whom I met in college. She loves the jeeps and jeeping. We’ve been married 42 years. She encourages me in my hobby.
Now subsequently I went looking for more Willys and found a flat fender 55 Utility Wagon. My current retirement project. Came from New Mexico via Indiana virtually rust free and solid (woo-hoo) but the interior was cooked by heat/sun and gone and it has a mismatched non running (Pontiac Iron Duke) engine. I recently found a original RUNNING L6-226 engine to tweak and drop in. I’ll be starting that project this summer. While looking at this Wagon the seller was working on a original Jeepster. Becky thought it was so cute, I could care less as I was a 4wd jeep guy. I was happy to trailer home the wagon. Long story short she found advertised a 50 Jeepster for sale that was parked in a garage for 15 years. ‘Ran when parked’. SHE twisted my arm and guess what? We went to see it and trailered it home. Now I see what she saw in the Jeepster. It is complete and I eventually and carefully got it to run and drive, gave it a complete go over last summer, now needs paint and new tires.
My project calendar is full for a while. But guess what now? Becky wants a Willys truck. The saga continues...
My best wishes to all Willys fanatics out there.
